The present building dates mainly from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. A house was added in the nineteenth century. It is a Grade I listed building. The priory was dissolved in the dissolution of monasteries in 1539 by Henry VIII. The last prior Robert Holgate was Bishop of Llandaff from and then Archbishop of York (from 1545 to 1554).
Historic Property Restoration were engaged to fully restore and consolidate the remaining standing structures of the stable block. Following on from this work we then constructed a complete new steel and timber framed roof structure and tiled the roof in traditional pantiles to match the original. A significant challenge for our team was the fact that the walls of the existing structure were not straight or true. Yet we had to construct a roof structure from straight steel and timber members. The works took 9 months to complete.
